Taal

This Indian music rhythm may be written as Tal/ Tala/ Taal/ Taala but it means the same. This is the disciplining, managing and balancing tool of the musical styles (Dhrupad, Dhammar, Khayal, Geet, Ghazal, Bhajan, Shabad, tune, Dhun, Song etc).

It is also called a meter (measuring tool) to correct, balance and manage the musical items. It helps to regulate the time, emotions and flow of the style (singing, playing, dancing,) concerned.

Taal is a set of actions containing the sub parts as Sam, Tali, Khali, Matra and Bol. It is demonstrated on hands by clapping, waving hands in air empty to miss the clap knowingly and counting the units of the rhythm according to their system of learning. It is taught to understand the Taal clear and better. The scholars/artists first of all learn, practice and check their material of performance by this action. When we play it on some instrument the same is called ‘Theka’ of the Taal.
